Swivel
A swivel is a mechanical device used in drilling rigs to suspend the weight of the drillstring while allowing it to rotate. It also facilitates the transfer of high-pressure drilling mud between the rig’s circulation system and the drillstring.

They allow free rotation of the drillstring beneath them while bearing the load of the entire string.
